Also known as the leather turtle or stingy turtle, it is the largest surviving hard shell sea turtle in the world, renowned for its unique skin and massive size. Their characteristic is having a carapace without a bony shell, replaced by a layer of leathery skin covered in seven longitudinal ridges, which makes them very unique among sea turtles. Widely distributed in tropical and subtropical waters around the world, their living habits mainly involve swimming in the ocean, with jellyfish as their main source of food. The beak is particularly adapted to prey on jellyfish and can easily cut and swallow these soft prey. Large in size, it can grow to over 1.5 meters and weigh hundreds of kilograms.
